Citizens Unite for the Baltimore Beloved Community Awakening Walk
Baltimore, Maryland--On Saturday, September 19, 2015, Configuration Performing Arts Network, Inc., in partnership with One God One Thought Center, The Trail of Dreams World Peace Walkers, United Religions Initiative, The Baltimore Times, Creating a Profound Sense of Community (CaPSoC) and New Born Church, will host the Baltimore Beloved Community Awakening walk in observance of the International Day of Peace. Citizens, students, community groups, organizations and all interested parties are invited to walk in solidarity around our common declarations for a new, healed, transformed, and awakened Baltimore.
The 5.5-mile walk will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Harlem Square Park, 1500 Edmondson Avenue, and culminate with a peace pole planting ceremony at Pauline Fauntleroy Park, 1379 N. Stricker Street, Baltimore, MD, 21217, led by led by international peace walkers and URI Global Trustee Audri Scott Williams and Peace Ambassador Karen Hunter Watson. Baltimore is one of 45 cities in the world to currently hold two of these international symbols of peace, one in Westport and another at the One God One Thought Center in Randallstown.
In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly established September 21st as the International Day of Peace, an annual day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace within and among all nations and peoples throughout the world. The theme for this year’s International Day of Peace is “Partnership for Peace—Dignity for All,” to highlight the importance of all segments of society working together to strive for peace. The Baltimore Beloved Community Awakening walk will connect our city with communities around the world and global events leading up to Sept. 21st.
The walk is the collective vision of five women who stand for peace, justice, transformation, and Dr. King’s vision of the “Beloved Community and who are actively involved in local and international organizations working on behalf of humanity and our planet, including the United Religions Initiative (URI), United Nations, International New Thought Alliance (INTA), and Baltimore Spiritual Activists.
